Alejandro Mayagoitia received his law degree from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and
the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, and completed his doctoral studies in law at
the Universidad Panamerica, where he taught Roman law and teaches Mexican legal history
and medieval and modern law. He also has taught at the Universidad Iberoamericana and the
Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. A fellow of the Instituto Internacional de
Historia del Derecho Indiano and the Academia Mexicana de Jurisprudencia y Legislación,
he is one of the Mexico's most respected legal historians. A small sample of his
