Dr Adrian Beavis is the Research Director of the Policy Research and Program
Evaluation program at the Australian Council for Educational Research. He has a wide
range of research interests: vocational interests and their influence on school subject
choice and tertiary course preferences, intergenerational social mobility, teachers and
teacher education and arts education. He has a particular interest in the theory of
program evaluation, and the relationship between evaluation and policy development. Dr
Beavis left ACER in 2006 after thirteen years to take up the position of Principal
Researcher with the Smith Family. In this role he was responsible for program evaluation,
original research and commentary on research and policy documents. He was also a member
of The Smith Family's Research Advisory Committee, and represented The Smith Family
at the Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated (ACSPRI).
Prior to ACER he worked in the Victorian Minsitry of Education and the State Training
Board, the then-peak body responsible for the TAFE sector, and the Centre for Program
Evaluation at the then-Melbourne College of Advanced Education.
